The legal system of a nation that was once a colony often retains the ghost template of its former ruler's jurisprudence, its articles and precedents echoing a past political reality. It is selling potential. It was a tool, I thought, for people who weren't "real" designers, a crutch for the uninspired, a way to produce something that looked vaguely professional without possessing any actual skill or vision. This single component, the cost of labor, is a universe of social and ethical complexity in itself, a story of livelihoods, of skill, of exploitation, and of the vast disparities in economic power across the globe. The Lane-Keeping System uses a forward-facing camera to track your vehicle's position within the lane markings. Looking back now, my initial vision of design seems so simplistic, so focused on the surface.
