My first few attempts at projects were exercises in quiet desperation, frantically scrolling through inspiration websites, trying to find something, anything, that I could latch onto, modify slightly, and pass off as my own. And at the end of each week, they would draw their data on the back of a postcard and mail it to the other. The ongoing task, for both the professional designer and for every person who seeks to improve their corner of the world, is to ensure that the reflection we create is one of intelligence, compassion, responsibility, and enduring beauty. The second shows a clear non-linear, curved relationship. This system, this unwritten but universally understood template, was what allowed them to produce hundreds of pages of dense, complex information with such remarkable consistency, year after year. The ubiquitous chore chart is a classic example, serving as a foundational tool for teaching children vital life skills such as responsibility, accountability, and the importance of teamwork.
