There will never be another Sears "Wish Book" that an entire generation of children can remember with collective nostalgia, because each child is now looking at their own unique, algorithmically generated feed of toys. The cost of the advertising campaign, the photographers, the models, and, recursively, the cost of designing, printing, and distributing the very catalog in which the product appears, are all folded into that final price. Similarly, Greek and Roman civilizations utilized patterns extensively in their architecture and mosaics, combining geometric precision with artistic elegance. This number, the price, is the anchor of the entire experience. Intrinsic load is the inherent difficulty of the information itself; a chart cannot change the complexity of the data, but it can present it in a digestible way. Such a catalog would force us to confront the uncomfortable truth that our model of consumption is built upon a system of deferred and displaced costs, a planetary debt that we are accumulating with every seemingly innocent purchase.
