Through the act of drawing freely, artists can explore their innermost thoughts, emotions, and experiences, giving shape and form to the intangible aspects of the human experience. Looking back now, my initial vision of design seems so simplistic, so focused on the surface. It is a concept that has evolved in lockstep with our greatest technological innovations, from the mechanical press that spread literacy across the globe to the digital files that unified our global communication, and now to the 3D printers that are beginning to reshape the landscape of manufacturing and creation. I learned about the danger of cherry-picking data, of carefully selecting a start and end date for a line chart to show a rising trend while ignoring the longer-term data that shows an overall decline. They can download a printable file, print as many copies as they need, and assemble a completely custom organizational system. The feedback I received during the critique was polite but brutal.
