I imagined spending my days arranging beautiful fonts and picking out color palettes, and the end result would be something that people would just inherently recognize as "good design" because it looked cool. They are often messy, ugly, and nonsensical. This means accounting for page margins, bleed areas for professional printing, and the physical properties of the paper on which the printable will be rendered. The allure of drawing lies in its versatility, offering artists a myriad of techniques and mediums to explore. If the catalog is only ever showing us things it already knows we will like, does it limit our ability to discover something genuinely new and unexpected? We risk being trapped in a self-reinforcing loop of our own tastes, our world of choice paradoxically shrinking as the algorithm gets better at predicting what we want.
