Adobe Illustrator is a professional tool for vector graphics. I know I still have a long way to go, but I hope that one day I'll have the skill, the patience, and the clarity of thought to build a system like that for a brand I believe in. It means using color strategically, not decoratively. The reason this simple tool works so well is that it simultaneously engages our visual memory, our physical sense of touch and creation, and our brain's innate reward system, creating a potent trifecta that helps us learn, organize, and achieve in a way that purely digital or text-based methods struggle to replicate. It has made our lives more convenient, given us access to an unprecedented amount of choice, and connected us with a global marketplace of goods and ideas. Such a catalog would force us to confront the uncomfortable truth that our model of consumption is built upon a system of deferred and displaced costs, a planetary debt that we are accumulating with every seemingly innocent purchase.
