It has made our lives more convenient, given us access to an unprecedented amount of choice, and connected us with a global marketplace of goods and ideas. Just as the artist charts shades of light to give form to a portrait, an individual can chart their principles to give form and direction to their life. Does the experience feel seamless or fragmented? Empowering or condescending? Trustworthy or suspicious? These are not trivial concerns; they are the very fabric of our relationship with the built world. They lacked conviction because they weren't born from any real insight; they were just hollow shapes I was trying to fill. It’s a return to the idea of the catalog as an edited collection, a rejection of the "everything store" in favor of a smaller, more thoughtful selection.
