You just can't seem to find the solution. It was a tool for education, subtly teaching a generation about Scandinavian design principles: light woods, simple forms, bright colors, and clever solutions for small-space living. When this translation is done well, it feels effortless, creating a moment of sudden insight, an "aha!" that feels like a direct perception of the truth. Set Small Goals: Break down larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks. For a chair design, for instance: What if we *substitute* the wood with recycled plastic? What if we *combine* it with a bookshelf? How can we *adapt* the design of a bird's nest to its structure? Can we *modify* the scale to make it a giant's chair or a doll's chair? What if we *put it to another use* as a plant stand? What if we *eliminate* the backrest? What if we *reverse* it and hang it from the ceiling? Most of the results will be absurd, but the process forces you to break out of your conventional thinking patterns and can sometimes lead to a genuinely innovative breakthrough. It was an InDesign file, pre-populated with a rigid grid, placeholder boxes marked with a stark 'X' where images should go, and columns filled with the nonsensical Lorem Ipsum text that felt like a placeholder for creativity itself.
