It teaches that a sphere is not rendered with a simple outline, but with a gradual transition of values, from a bright highlight where the light hits directly, through mid-tones, into the core shadow, and finally to the subtle reflected light that bounces back from surrounding surfaces. How does a person move through a physical space? How does light and shadow make them feel? These same questions can be applied to designing a website. It uses annotations—text labels placed directly on the chart—to explain key points, to add context, or to call out a specific event that caused a spike or a dip. This was a huge shift for me. When properly implemented, this chart can be incredibly powerful. It is a thin, saddle-stitched booklet, its paper aged to a soft, buttery yellow, the corners dog-eared and softened from countless explorations by small, determined hands.
