I read the classic 1954 book "How to Lie with Statistics" by Darrell Huff, and it felt like being given a decoder ring for a secret, deceptive language I had been seeing my whole life without understanding. The aesthetic is often the complete opposite of the dense, information-rich Amazon sample. Therapy and healing, in this context, can be seen as a form of cognitive and emotional architecture, a process of identifying the outdated and harmful ghost template and working deliberately to overwrite it with a new blueprint built on safety, trust, and a more accurate perception of the present moment. The template represented everything I thought I was trying to escape: conformity, repetition, and a soulless, cookie-cutter approach to design. This is when I discovered the Sankey diagram.
