Deer Vitals Chart. I was working on a branding project for a fictional coffee company, and after three days of getting absolutely nowhere, my professor sat down with me. Softer pencils (B range) create darker marks, ideal for shading, while harder pencils (H range) are better for fine lines and details. I had to define the leading (the space between lines of text) and the tracking (the space between letters) to ensure optimal readability. The typographic rules I had created instantly gave the layouts structure, rhythm, and a consistent personality.
