When we encounter a repeating design, our brains quickly recognize the sequence, allowing us to anticipate the continuation of the pattern. What is the first thing your eye is drawn to? What is the last? How does the typography guide you through the information? It’s standing in a queue at the post office and observing the system—the signage, the ticketing machine, the flow of people—and imagining how it could be redesigned to be more efficient and less stressful. Don Norman’s classic book, "The Design of Everyday Things," was a complete game-changer for me in this regard. Yet, to hold it is to hold a powerful mnemonic device, a key that unlocks a very specific and potent strain of childhood memory. Customers began uploading their own photos in their reviews, showing the product not in a sterile photo studio, but in their own messy, authentic lives. Beyond these core visual elements, the project pushed us to think about the brand in a more holistic sense.
