It’s a mantra we have repeated in class so many times it’s almost become a cliché, but it’s a profound truth that you have to keep relearning. Studying the Swiss Modernist movement of the mid-20th century, with its obsession with grid systems, clean sans-serif typography, and objective communication, felt incredibly relevant to the UI design work I was doing. This act of creation involves a form of "double processing": first, you formulate the thought in your mind, and second, you engage your motor skills to translate that thought into physical form on the paper. The experience was tactile; the smell of the ink, the feel of the coated paper, the deliberate act of folding a corner or circling an item with a pen. It understands your typos, it knows that "laptop" and "notebook" are synonyms, it can parse a complex query like "red wool sweater under fifty dollars" and return a relevant set of results. They are integral to the function itself, shaping our behavior, our emotions, and our understanding of the object or space.
