The history, typology, and philosophy of the chart reveal a profound narrative about our evolving quest to see the unseen and make sense of an increasingly complicated world. While the 19th century established the chart as a powerful tool for communication and persuasion, the 20th century saw the rise of the chart as a critical tool for thinking and analysis. This is when I encountered the work of the information designer Giorgia Lupi and her concept of "Data Humanism.
